Plymouth's waterfront surrounds one of the most beautiful and stunning natural harbours in the world and is the perfect setting for a summer of maritime related events and festivals which will see Plymouth Sound full of sailing, fishing, sports and commercial tripping boats.
This year, the festival kicks off with an event of international significance, referred to as the toughest of them all, The Artemis Transat at Sutton Harbour, Plymouth will start on 11 May 2008.
This year we bring the race into the heart of the city by building a race village around the Barbican. This will be open to the public free of charte over a 10 day period running up to the start of the Race.
Other highlights this year include the return of powerboat raching to The Sound as the Honda Formula Four Stroke series stops over in Plymouth for the second of five UK rounds over the weekend of June 14/15.
2008 promises to be one of the busiest in Plymouth's nautical calendar. Between 26 July and 3 August Sutton Harbour will become a riot of colour and speed when hundreds take to the water in Plymouth Sound for the Sutton Harbour Festival. Boats will be moored alongside the yachts in Sutton Harbour to provide a splendid spectacle for all visitors, bringing the ancient cobbles of the Barbican alive with bustle and interest.
